Mogao Caves

Located near Dunhuang, China, the Mogao Caves comprise a system of 492 temples that house one of the world’s most significant collections of Buddhist art and architecture, spanning over a thousand years. As a historically significant crossroad of the Silk Road located between China and Europe, Dunhuang flourished both culturally and economically.

Today, the Mogao Caves remain a vital cultural landmark and were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. We have partnered with and supported the Dunhuang Foundation in its mission to preserve and restore the caves, as well as in its outreach and educational efforts to promote this remarkable heritage site.
